Evans to play safety for the Gators behind Wright and Black
The Gators recruited Josh Evans as an all-around athlete, but rumor
has it that he will be an expected contributor to Florida's defensive
backfield. The 6-2, 185 pound playmaker played mostly as a quarterback
in during his last two years at Irvington HS in Irvington (NJ).

The Gators are planning on using Evans as a safety but will start
out on special teams due to the defensive backfield's current depth.
Questions arose with Evans at safety because the Gators seem to be set
with Ahmad Black and Major Wright. With Black being a junior and
Wright, also a junior, projected to go to the NFL in 2010, defensive
backfield depth is key. Evans recorded 78 tackles and seven
interceptions on defense during his senior year. He was named the
Star-Ledger Essex County (NJ) Player of the Year and a was a first-team
all-state selection as a senior. Evans was recruited by Oklahoma,
Pittsburgh and Purdue. Technorati Tags: Ahmad Black, Major Wright, Josh Evans, Gators' football, Irvington, NJ |
