2014 wide receiver prospect Dareian Watkins from Galion Ohio visits the Buckeyes this past Wednesday for a practice during their bye week. The Buckeyes have had Watkins on their list of potential recruits for next year for some time. The 6’2” 190lbs athlete already has scholarship offers from Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Northwestern, Purdue and Toledo.
Watkins watched practice along side Springfield receiver Thaddeus Snodgrass also considered one of the best in the 2014 Ohio class. After practice Watkins was able to meet with Urban Meyer although he only thought he would be able to discuss OSU with Zach Smith who is recruiting him. Meyer told Watkins to continue to progress as he is not fully developed as a receiver yet, he plays quarterback for his high school.
The practice itself was impressive according the Watkins, nothing like the slower speed of a high school practice. Meeting personally with Meyer and receiver’s coach Smith made an impression on Watkins. He also plans to visit Michigan today and Wisconsin this coming weekend when Ohio State visits. Definitely one to watch as the Buckeyes try to increase the depth at the receiver position.
