Zach West Commits to Kentucky When we spoke to Zach West last he was favoring three college programs including Penn State, Kentucky and Tennessee. He received scholarship offers from all of this favorite programs and the 3 star recruit out of Lexington Christian didn’t have a time line of when he would commit. But on August 25th, the 4th best recruit in the state of Kentucky committed to the in-state school where all of his family had attended. Zach West 2011 Offensive Tackle Highlights By Steve Patterson Zach West, a 6’5” 305lbs offensive left tackle prospect, made his decision on the weekend prior to a press conference to make his school selection public. The new offensive line coach for the Wildcats, Make Summers, put the in-state program on top over Tennessee and Penn State. He picked up the Penn State hat prior to revealing a Kentucky cap underneath at his press conference. We asked West recently what the highlight of his career at Lexington Christian was. “The highlight of my high school career was winning our schools first ever state championship in 2009. We also set the record for most points scored in the state championship game.” he explained. He was able to take a good number of visits before making his college choice. ”I have taken visits to Kentucky,Penn State, Tennessee, Louisville, Auburn, Cincinnati and I plan on taking a visit to TCU.” He is solid for Kentucky now and will not take any additional visits. Weeks before he called the coaching staff in Lexington he told us ”I would like to take a couple of official visits before I decide, but I have no selected time table right now.” but changing his mind on his time table was not difficult. Saying no to Joe Paterno and Penn State was difficult. “I like Kentucky because I was born in Lexington and my entire family has gone to the university. I really like the direction in which the program is going. I like Penn State so much because it has such a rich tradition and they continue to have very successful seasons every year. And I like Tennessee so much because of Coach Heistand’s style of coaching the offensive line.” he told us about his final three. |
