Florida State Cornerback Dionte Allen Transfers According to reports from both TampaBay.com and the Columbus Dispatch, Florida State backup cornerback Dionte Allen will be transferring from Florida State to Ohio State to complete his eligibility. The Detroit Orchard Lake product will need to sit out the 2010 season but will have a year remaining when 2011 arrives. By Steve Patterson Dionte Allen was granted his release from Florida State in August and was spotted at a Michigan State practice before Ohio State seemed to secure his transfer, although the school could not comment. He was a 4 Star cornerback coming out of Orchard Lake St Mary’s in 2007 and the 3rd best player in Michigan that year, according to recruiting services. Allen red-shirted and found it difficult to get on the field with the Seminoles. Florida State secured a number of top notch corners in their most recent recruiting class including Lamarcus Joyner and transfer Mike Harris. Allen may have felt his opportunities were limited and wanted to find a new home. Ohio State has two Orchard Lake alumni on their roster including Aaron Gant and Taurian Washington. Allen commented at the time of his transfer that Ohio State Head Coach Jim Tressel was always about family when he recruited him years ago. Allen hopes to show NFL scouts that his talent on the field is equal to the high ranking that he had coming out of the talent rich St Mary’s program three years ago. |
