Noah Spence Commits to Ohio State and Urban Meyer

Noah Spence wasn’t talking about Ohio State prior to Urban Meyer joining the Buckeyes this past month, but now he is firmly committed even after OSU was restricted from playing in a bowl game in 2012. The Buckeyes beat out Penn State, Florida, North Carolina, NC State, Notre Dame and a host of others for the best defensive end in the 2012 recruiting class. The Ohio State class has vaulted to the top of the team rankings on Rivals.com since Urban Meyer has taken over the 2012 class.

His strength is his ability to speed rush the passer and get around the edge quicker than anyone else in the country. He is also stout against the run as you can see from the highlight videos present on the many recruiting sites. His combination of rushing the passer and getting back into a play on draws and hand-offs puts him above all the others.

Spence isn’t the first player that Urban Meyer has been able to get a commitment from after entering the picture very late. Sharrif Floyd, Matt Elam and Dominique Easley were all headed other places than Florida when Meyer turned up the recruiting and got them to Gainesville. Spence could have been headed to Maryland very easily but Meyer is one of the best recruiters in the country and recruits recognize his coaching ability on the field as well.
