Ohio State Head Coach Urban Meyer on Recruiting at the Big Ten Media Days

Urban Meyer commented on Penn State, recruiting, his current players and more at the Big Ten Media Days which began today. The Big Ten Conference put out a list of players to watch in 2012 with 5 players from each division, the Leaders and the Legends. Ohio State players defensive lineman John Simon and quarterback Braxton Miller were on the list. Simon is a known stud on the defensive line while Braxton Miller is a bit of question with a new offense being put into place after a difficult season last year.

In the face of a lot of competition and getting a late start this past recruiting season, Meyer was able to put together a top class nationally upsetting some coaches in the conference. Taking players from other teams is never a popular thing, but there’s grey area between stealing a recruit and letting that recruit make a decision based on new information. The Buckeyes are banned from post season play this coming season and Meyer commented today that the players that came in last year really want to Buckeyes because of the ban.

Meyer also does not see a problem with accepting players from Penn State that reach out to him and want to transfer. This was in opposition to Wisconsin head Coach Bret Bielema who openly stated that he would not be recruiting Penn State commits and/or players.
