OSU Basketball Star David Lighty Is Going To Play For Italy
David Lighty, who formerly played OSU basketball, confirmed that he will be playing for the Italian Team called Cantu. He called into the Lantern, Ohio State’s student paper, on Wednesday evening and stated that he was really close to signing a contract with the team. Cantu will be playing in the Euro league next season, which happens to be the top league in Europe.
He has not unofficially moved yet, but he is expected to sign the contract by the end of this week.
Lighty was not chosen for the draft on June 23, so his NBA career was temporarily put on hold. On July 1, the NBA entered a lockout and this forbid teams from signing individuals who were free agents.
"When I was speaking to my agent Joel Bell, he presented me with three options." " He said that I could either go overseas and play for a team overseas, stay here and wait for the lockout period to be over or go to Atlanta or Phoenix for training camp."
Lighty also stated, "If the timing had been different, I would have chosen to go to training camp because the teams in Atlanta or Phoenix would have possibly signed me. However, since I was in lockout, there was no way I could have been guaranteed a spot.
Lighty said that since his future was uncertain, he ultimately decided to go overseas and play. He is very glad that he made that decision. He was a member of the Fab Four, one of Thad Matta’s best classes at Ohio State.
