Josh Davis, the Ohio Defensive Tackle prospect from Jonathon Alder High School has had interest from a number of big programs in the Midwest with many junior visits. Watching the 6'6" 270 lbs nose tackle's film makes you realize why colleges are recruiting him early. He can get into the backfield quickly or clog up the middle of the line of scrimmage on any down that he wants to. Whatever school is able to get his college commitment will have a solid tackle four years to come. Film: Josh Davis - Jonathan Alder 2010 Davis recently told us about his ability to lead on the field and off the field. "I'm a leader not only on the field but in the weight room and in class." he said this week. "I've been told by every coach that I've have had, that I'm very coachable."
Local NFL product Mike Furrey was in town over the off-season awaiting a new contract and Davis got a chance to workout with the Central Ohio legend. "The highlight of my high school career was lifting with Mike Furrey." he reported about the event. For his junior year, Davis put up some very impressive numbers from his nose tackle position "74 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries." Jonathan Alder finished 8-2 in a decent season for the Pioneers. During this past year, he has been invited to seven different campuses and made visits multiple times to a couple. "I've been on several college visits: Ohio State 3 times (two football games and a bowl practice), Illinois 2 times (football games), Northwestern bowl practice, Cincinnati football game, Wisconsin football game, Notre Dame Junior Day, Indiana Junior Day. Most of the visits were very interesting and informative. Some of the visits were very entertaining, positive, and left a good impression, while others seemed not so interesting." One of his most memorable visits was to Ohio State for the Michigan game were a large group of high school prospects watched the game from the field.
He has a long list of questions about each program that he'll use to evaluate the schools before making a final selection. "First thing I look at in a college is what kind of place it is: What kind of academics does the school have? Do I think I can fit in to it? What are the people like? Then I look at their football program: What are the coaches like? What are the players like? Where would I fit into the team? What are the chances of making it to the next level?"
"Many schools have shown interest so far." He told us about potential offers. "The schools that have been out to my school to collect transcripts are: Northwestern, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Indiana, Iowa, Cincinnati. Others have also called the coach and said that they are very interested as well."
The school that lands the dominate tackle will be the one with the coaches he feels most comfortable with. "The thing I like most about my favorite schools is the relationship that I have with the coaches." he explained.  |
