Devonta Smith is a 6’0” 185lbs. corner back from La Salle Cincinnati Ohio. The high school is only a few hours from Columbus Ohio and many football players in the area dream of being Buckeyes one day.

Smith is considered the 33rd best cornerback in the country and the 14th best overall Ohio prospect for 2021. He could get a bump from his current 3 star rating as his large number of scholarship offers are looked at. He had 30 scholarship offers including Cincinnati, Oklahoma, Michigan State, Oregon, and more.

Devonta Smith Recruitment

Recruited by Kerry Combs, he plans to visit Columbus on June 12th. He committed to the Buckeyes shortly after receiving an offer this March. Ohio State continues to perform well during the dead period created by the coronavirus pandemic. And the addition of Kerry Combs to the staff has helped secure a number of players for 2021.

La Salle won the Division II Ohio state title last season with Smith playing offense and defense.

Smith missed his opportunity to compete in a Ohio State camp last summer when his friend Jaylen Johnson earned an offer. He did receive an offer the day before from Minnesota but was too sore to camp two days in a row.

Devonta Smith: Three-star cornerback explains his decision to commit to Ohio State

Ohio State 2021 Class

Smith joins La Salle safety Jaylen Johnson in the Ohio State 2021 class. Ohio State found itself needing new defensive backs as it entered the off-season this year. Smith is the third back in the class which could include a couple more.

Smith helps Ohio State to improve their defensive backfield in 2021 and going forward. The 2021 class at Ohio State is currently rated the best class in the country and every top level recruit they add makes them even stronger.

Devonta Smith De-Commits from Ohio State

Smith de-committed from Ohio State earlier this week (June 24th 2020) and posted on twitter his decision. Sources report that Ohio State did not fight for his continued commitment to their program and that Alabama came in strong for him and he is most likely going to sign with Nick Saban.

Cincinnati LaSalle players have been recruited by Ohio State on a regular basis over the years including 2020 kicker Jake Seibert and 2021 Safety Jaylen Johnson.

Smith is a 3 star cornerback and the number of defensive backs in the 2021 class for Ohio State, five, probably played a role in him wanted to go somewhere else. Possible replacements include Clemson commit Jordan Hancock and safety Derrick Davis Jr out of Monroeville Gateway HS.
