Ohio State Pro Day Features Heisman Winner Troy Smith

In 2006 Troy Smith won the Heisman Trophy playing for a team at Ohio State that went all the way to the National Championship. For Pro scouts this year at the Ohio State football facility, Troy Smith came in and threw some passes to graduating receivers for Buckeye’s Pro Day. He tossed passes to Evan Spencer, tight end Jeff Heuerman, and Devin Smith. Devin Smith and Jeff Heuerman were invited to the NFL combine while Spencer had this one chance to prove that he deserves consideration.

Scouts from all the NFL teams were on hand to see the players at Pro Day. Spencer looked like a pro player according to all reports. Spencer showed his size, speed and ability during the scouting event. Timed 40 yard dashes came in the 4.38 to 4.40 range. His speed would have been in the top 5 for receivers if he had done that at the NFL combine. His bench press also was tops for receivers when compared to how they performed at the NFL event. His vertical jump as a little lower than average.

Spencer finished his career at Ohio State with 7 touchdowns and 579 yards on 52 catches. He is hoping to get a late round opportunity and making a team next season. He has been working in Tampa and hoped to show his explosiveness and route running at the Buckeye Pro Day. He had spoke to the Bucs prior to the the event but was able to speak with almost every team after his good show at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.
