On Thursday in a surprise move, Andrew Chatfield, a 4-star defensive end who hails from Florida's Plantation American Heritage, committed to the Buckeyes. With Chatfield's decision, Ohio State has racked up 11 commits of the class of 2018. Analyst rank Chatfield as Number 15 of the weak side defensive ends and the 291st prospect of the 2018 class. Of the 11 commits, Ohio has gathered players that all have been placed in the top 300 rankings in composite rankings. While Chatfield visited Ohio State in April, he did not get an offer until May 23. Many had predicted that he would have gone to LSU. In addition, Chatfield also had scholarship offers from several schools including TCU, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Michigan State, Syracuse, Oregon, Tennessee and West Virginia. Of the Buckeye's 2018 class, Chatfield would be the third defensive lineman and second defensive end to join along with 5-star DT Taron Vincent and 5-star DE Brenton Cox. Since 2015 when Torrance Gibson joined the Buckeyes, Chatfield is the next player to join from American Heritage. Gibson has since transferred to Cincinnati. Chatfield's stats include leading American Heritage with 81 tackles, 24.5 sacks as a junior in 2016 and being named All-Broward County Defensive Player of the Year. Chad Wilson, American Heritage defensive coordinator told the Sun-Sentinel that Chatfield showed an increase in his confidence during this year and that Chatfield filled the role as the passing rushing end. 4 STAR Defensive End | Andrew Chatfield '18 | American Heritage (Plantation, FL) The Opening |
