Jaedon LeDee, the 2018 four star forward prospect from the Houston Kinkaid School, made a commitment to the Ohio State basketball team last Tuesday. He becomes the first big recruit of Chris Holtmann's first complete recruiting class. 2018 is seen as Holtmann’s real test, if he can build a quality team with great recruits at Ohio State.

At 230 pounds and six foot eight inches in height, LeDee was deliberating between Texas A&M and Ohio State, when he declared on Monday that he intended to reveal his selection on Tuesday. Considered a Texas A&M lean due to it being in LeDee’s hometown.

LeDee is ranked as the eighth best prospect from Texas, and the country's thirty-first small forward. He is the 115 top prospect nationwide.

He had a strong Spring and Summer playing for Texas Pro AAU, averaging 15 points a game and 8 rebounds.

College Visits

LeDee whittled his list down in August, to eight schools. These included Oklahoma, Ohio State, LSU, Texas A&M, Iowa State, Houston, UCLA and California. He made an unofficial trip to Oklahoma on September 2, along with official trips to Texas A&M on September 15 and Ohio State on September 9 for the Oklahoma football game.

Ledee had arranged official trips to UCLA on October 6 and Louisiana on September 29, however he canceled both visits. The visit to Columbus won him over with everything Ohio State had to offer. He wants to come in and make an impact right away for the Buckeyes.

2018 Class at Ohio State

Holtmann wants to enroll up to five prospects in the class of 2018. Guard positions are the top priority, due to the dearth of players on the roster. But Ohio State will probably lose both Jae’Sean Tate and Keita Bates-Diop after this coming season, meaning they will need someone like LeDee to fill the small forward position.

Ohio State had received a commitment from Torrence Watson, the three star St Louis guard prospect. However, this commitment was made verbally, and Watson reneged on the agreement last month - having since been enrolled with Missouri.

The Early Signing Period is from November 8th to November 15th. Regular Signing happens from April 11th to May 16th.
