Najee Murray Became a Member of Ohio State’s 2012 Class

Najee Murray verbally committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes this month, becoming the ninth member of a 2012 recruiting class that will most likely be smaller than national averages. The cornerback from Steubenville has good size at 5’11” and 172lbs with nice speed of 4.41 seconds in the 40 yard. He had received scholarship offers from Akron, Bowling Green, Indiana, Ohio University and Toledo among others before ending his recruitment. Ohio State seems content to pull in Ohio players in a year that they face NCAA hearings and possible penalties beyond the current player suspensions for taking extra benefits for memorabilia.

Committing at the Sunday senior camp, Murray had a great performance that earned him the scholarship offer which he accepted right away. He felt that his performance in Columbus was his best at a camp and that he locked down everyone during the drills at corner. The staff compared Murray to Christian Bryant from Glenville who has similar size and could be a starting safety this coming season. Luke Fickell and Nick Siciliano spoke with Murray on the phone to give him the good news and accept his commitment.

Murray looked through all the trouble around the football program at Ohio State and felt comfortable about everything that he saw on campus during the summar camp. He is now excited to take a break from summer camps and return to Steubenville where he can focus on his senior season. He hopes to win a state championship this coming year. He played safety last season but now can move to cornerback and improve his skills for when he enrolls at OSU. He is quite excited about the tradition at Ohio State and what lies ahead of him.
