What Joey Burrow Means to Ohio State Recruiting

The Ohio State football recruiting commitment dilemma is over thanks to Athens quarterback and rising star Joey Burrow.

Joey Burrow gained widespread attention in the nationwide recruiting rankings. He was holding out for an offer from Ohio State despite having offers from 17 other schools. Burrow quickly accepted the offer from the Buckeyes, and he became the third commitment for the class of 2015. This was the first recruit for the Buckeyes after the drought of the last few months.

Burrow spoke with Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer after receiving an early morning telephone call.

Meyer was impressed with the film footage he reviewed, and after their conversation Burrow was eager to commit on the spot.

Burrow has been impressive in two seasons as a starting quarterback. Athens achieved a 23-3 record as Burrow logged over 8,300 offensive yards and 94 touchdown passes. Burrow passed for 47 touchdowns and over 3,700 yards last season. He rounded out the last season with nine scores and 548 rushing yards, easily becoming the Gatorade Ohio State player of the year.

Meyer stated that Burrow displays solid quarterback skills, and that Burrow could develop into a leading offensive player.

Fort Lauderdale, Florida quarterback Torrance Gibson will still get an offer from Ohio State. Gibson has placed the Buckeyes fourth on his list that includes Tennessee, Auburn, and Louisiana State. Gibson plans to announce his decision after his senior playing season, and the Ohio State football organization could benefit from this recruit as well.
