The Nick Montana Decision from a Buckeye Perspective

Yesterday the super-recruit Nick Montana, son of NFL Hall of Famer Joe Montana, finally chose a school. Ohio State was among the long list of schools that heavily recruited the junior quarterback star. Jim Tressel even went as far as to promise Montana that he would not recruit any other quarterbacks for the 2010 class if he came to Ohio State.

To the surprise of most of us, Nick chose the University of Washington and while I am disappointed that he will not be wearing the Scarlett and Grey, I am pleased to know that now the Buckeyes can open the recruiting doors to other quarterbacks. Nick’s early commitment to the Huskies will allow Ohio State the freedom to look at other talent around the country and hopefully land a great quarterback that fits into the Buckeye mold.

Yes, I would have loved to seen him suit up for the Buckeyes but the early commitment is a best case scenario for Montana-less OSU. Hey, I’m a glass half full kind of guy, unless it’s beer. Then we have a problem.
