Cam Heyward Gets Extension from Pittsburgh

Thursday night Cam Heyward signed an extension with the Pittsburgh Steelers prior to the start of their training camp. This would have been the final year of his rookie contract. Heyward was very excited about signing an extension and stated his love for the organization. The deal comes in at over $59 million for a six year period. He had 53 tackles last year with 7.5 sacks, making him one of the bigger playmakers on the Steelers defense.

Pittsburgh struggled on defense last season with the team in the process of a youth movement. Heyward at 26 years old, is a big part of that movement.

Others to sign long term contracts include Ben Roethlisberger, Maurkice Pouncey, and Antonio Brown. Heyward believes he can be a double-digit sack guy and draw a lot of attention, allowing others to get to the quarterback. The team hopes to improve on sacks overall and improve on last season’s appearance in the playoffs.
