The 2013 Ohio State Spring Football Game

Few sporting events in central Ohio create the buzz of the Ohio State football program.  With one of the largest stadiums in the United States, the Horseshoe becomes its own municipality each time that the Buckeyes host a football game against a Big Ten opponent.  Having forfeited a bowl game appearance, the Buckeye football 2013 schedule is now looking all the more attractive since the team is eager to prove that they again belong in the echelon of elite NCAA teams.  The Ohio State Spring Game, a squad scrimmage of existing players and new recruits, is the first peep of the upcoming Buckeye football 2013 season and drew a large crowd as usual.

Under the tutelage of head coach Urban Meyer, the Ohio State Spring Game allowed incoming prospects to try their hand at the ropes against the seasoned veterans of the squad.  In addition to the game itself, the school mascot Brutus Buckeye managed to get a snap himself, running down the field before a tackle by linebacker David Perkins sent the mascot firmly down to the ground.  The hit, likely a bit more intense than the mascot is used to, was commented upon by an unapologetic Perkins.  "See ball, get ball", said the linebacker.

The Ohio State Spring Game is one of the main components of student appreciation day.  About two and a half thousand students (as well as their parents) flocked to the field to watch the football tilt.  During the "halftime" of the scrimmage, the Ohio State band practiced as well, launching out into full force with the regalia that they wear during the actual season.  Instead of sitting in the bleachers, students were allowed to hang out around the end zone and snap pictures, many of which were quickly uploaded onto Twitter so that friends could see their up-close view.
