De’Van Bogard Cleveland Glenville 2012 Safety

De’Van Bogard came to Ohio State just as things were looking a little sour, with NCAA violations looming, Coach Jim Tressel Resigned, and their star recruit from Cleveland switching to Michigan. But Bogard liked everything he saw at Ohio State and became their ninth committed recruit for 2012 late in June. The call came hours after their senior summer camp ended and the coaching staff couldn’t have been more excited.

Steve Patterson

We asked Bogard about his high school career and the highlight so far. “My best attribute as a football player is my hard hitting, I can throw the ball as well as run the ball, and being a team leader.” Cleveland Glenville made it to the Division I state finals when Bogard was a sophomore. “The highlight of my career was playing in the state championship game as a 15 year old Sophomore.”

Bogard had scholarship offers from some of the biggest programs in country (USC, Michigan, Michigan State, and Pitt) but selected the Buckeyes. “I have no college visits yet. I am looking for a college that fits my best requirements as far as education and of course football, also the atmosphere.” He liked what he saw at OSU and is happy with the decision he made. “The most I love about Ohio State is that we’re a family and we stick together in any situation!!”

He should be a hard hitting safety that plays early when he arrives next year. And with the Buckeyes coming clean on their NCAA issues, more recruits will be looking to Luke Fickell as the team has a number of open spots in their next recruiting class.
